Nowadays the health and safety regulations are getting more towards the extreme. The time and money involved are simply endless.
In the current times, if you want to get something done. You spend half your life, trying to make sure that the dumb person you employed, does not get hurt for a one minute job.
There is no better example than lane closures on the expressway. Two of the three lanes are closed from the east coast all the way to the west coast so that the construction worker can tighten one screw somewhere in between, causing traffic snarls all the way along.
Why don't they just stop the traffic where a screw needs to be tightened, get a ladder, tighten it and let the traffic go by. Simple. Equipment required: one ladder, one person to stop traffic and another to do the job. Instead they have 10 trucks, some for putting the cones, taking them, posting speed limits and some for simply doing nothing.
Planning is good, but planning way ahead is stupidity. There's a road sign near my place saying the road will be closed sometime mid of next year. Yes, that's just enough time if I need to sell my house and look for a new one.
Cars are getting heavier day by day so that more safety equipment can be added to abide by the new regulation laws which came into effect this morning. Just to keep a idiotic driver alive. I don't see the point since, that idiot is going to get on the road again, make stupid mistakes and put other lives in danger.
A car's navigation system is supposed to display a warning saying that it should be used carefully and comes on every time you switch on your car. You need to press 'OK' every single time you need to use it. Wrong idea, since one my friends banged his car doing exactly that!
