Desi to almost ABCD - Part 1

"Visa Approved. You will get your passport with a week". After these words, would be one of the biggest changes in our life. Moving to another country. Not looking forward to study, but to get away from home and experience actually freedom. You think in your mind that all the lies worked out perfectly, about you coming back to your country (Yeah right!!!), all the fake bank statements and about how your studies will help you improve your dads business etc. A person can write a book on this, so I'll cover this in two or three parts.

With a sign of relief you step outside the US consulate and catch an auto. It's all down hill from there. The auto driver is more happy that you got your visa since, he's going to pull out at least Rs 500 from you saying that you will be earning in dollars soon. You call all your friends telling them the good news. They are saddened since you'll be going away but realise that its a blessing in disguise and they'll be emptying your wallet for a BIG treat. Your dad is happy but has no freaking clue how he's going to pay for it, just hoping you get an aid of some sort.

Now the shopping starts. People buy at least 20 pairs of underwear's. What do they think, that there are no washing machines here? Then comes really really pathetic Black jacket with a fur lining inside. Unfortunately, even I fell for this. All the guys from south India will have bought this. Anyone who says no, probably burnt it as soon as they landed in the US so that there's no evidence. And go berserk with shopping for clothes, shoes etc and yes definitely the Suit. People might leave their passports behind but make sure they get the suit which they never use.

Mommy dearest makes a mini scrap book of all the recipe's she knows so that you can cook. That's the biggest joke. She buys everything needed which, in the end tuns out to be another kitchen minus the counter top and the fridge. The date comes sooner than expected and you're broke by treating all your friends. Packing starts and the two suitcases are filled the max so that, even air cannot enter.

Location: Airport. You are in mixed feelings to leave, but the thought of freedom overcomes it. You dream about all the clubbing, strip clubs, girls, the good life. Hoping you'd get another pretty girl to sit by you who, also is a student. So you can start you're next relationship right away. If you are from South-India, that's too much to ask for. You think it would really suck if a guy with powder on his head, who is a blabber mouth and a mustache big enough to put Veerapan to shame sits next to you. So you're praying at your seat that you get the hot girl and not that guy. The guy it was. He asks, "Are you going to the Ameerika too?". You say yes, thinking if anybody in the plane had any other option at all.

Once the plane takes off, you eat and just pretend to sleep to avoid the guy next to you. It seems like eternity to reach US. After 10 years, 200 stops and 400 security checks, you finally land at your destination. You say bye to the guy sitting next to you hoping you never ever see that guy again in your life.

You get your luggage, but now your suitcase gives up and explodes. The floor is filled your underwear. 19 of them because you wanted to wear a new one. The security thinks you are smuggling in something and wants to check your other suitcase. He was right, the other one had a kitchen in it!

To be continued...
