Surprise Bday Parties - Or so they say

The current generation have had at least one of these and, for most of them its every year. So now, we can put a prefix to it and call it a, Expected Surprise Bday Party. Since, everyone expects one and is too modest to throw one themselves. It's a surprise, only if there is no party.

Firstly, facebook and orkut kind of throws the fact on their face, saying my birthday is coming up. Birthday alarm website in fact, sends over people with an alarm clock to my house as a reminder. In case I forget again, I get smacked on the head with the same clock. Above all this, I keep ranting over to everybody saying my birthday is coming and am excited about it (I mean the surprise party, but don't want to say it).

Now the planning starts. Invite all the people who are at present in good terms with that person(at least till the birthday). I did a blunder of including the person itself once. But he always ignored my emails, which this time, helped. Head to the nearest bakery and pick up a cake. Price depends if the person is worth that much. Get a writing on the cake with an obnoxious name. Buy one greeting card and have all the 50 or so people write their wishes on it.

The day, or rather the night (before the actually day) comes. All the Indians show up on time. Well, it was for last years party you arranged. Everybody breaks down the door and yells surprise.  The person is ready in a decent attire expecting this anyways, tries his best to have a genuine expression. Cake is cut and, within a fraction of a second, the cake is on the persons face. You're glad you didn't spend much on the cake.

I remember the first surprise party I had. It was a dud, since my roommate told me that my friends were organising one. How brilliant. After the cake is cut, the discussion starts on how the whole ploy was set. Suddenly everything starts to makes sense on why people were avoiding you that day. Now, you realise you forgot to invite another half a dozen people he was expecting.

If it was a midnight party and it was a weekday, then I feel sorry for him since everybody would certainly curse him the next day for, being born on that day. No matter what said, its always a feel good factor for both, the one who is organizing the party and the birthday boy, though they both know its coming up. The surprise is not totally eliminated since, you'll never know one thing. The time!
