It's Turkey time....

This tradition again, according to Wikipedia started around 400 years back. To mark the end of the harvest season and mainly being thankful for it. The trend continued and some where along the way shopping got involved and we started having Black Friday's. And then to keep Tim Berners-Lee happy, we started having Cyber Monday's.

Thanksgiving is synonymous for Turkey. Every dinner table will have one roasted turkey sitting for us to dig in. There is nothing special about having Turkey during Thanksgiving. It was just that there were a lot of them roaming around aimlessly. So it was easy to find, hence everyone started eating them. The tradition continued and now we have to shell out fifty bucks or so, for one.

Since the family generally gets together for this occasion the Airline industry tends to cash on it. Fares are just about the same as what you'd get, when you sell your kids. If they are brats, you might need to sell more than one. So after you get rid of your kids, end up at your parents. Its all good. Until the point, where you can't stand your mother anymore.

It's good that the Americans and Canadians take a day off to be thankful for what they have. The rest of the days, they are thanking everyone, everywhere anyways. This year for a change I attended a Thanksgiving dinner with all my friends. It was an Indianized version, which means there will be no Turkey, only Tofu. We all will be sitting in living room versus the dining table. We won't be thankful for anything but, bitch about anything and everything.

After the dinner is done, people head to the malls late in the night or in the morning, depending on how jobless they are. Stand in line and buy all the things they don't need in the first place. Like for instance, a Toyota Corolla. I'd rather walk. Russians do not celebrate thanksgiving since, they have been pretty busy trying to invent something after the pencil. After which the Government will take ownership of it anyways.

This year people were so desperate that they killed a Walmart employee in New York. And now after killing one person, everybody is coming up with new laws. Well better late than never. But its better to be preventive than reactive. The crowds at the malls seemed like it was the day before Christmas. I guess no American was home last friday.

This year I stayed home. Not because I was being smart. Because I was broke.
