Finally the Government officially declares that we are in recession, since end of last year. The stock market did not crash on that news because everyone knew it was happening but, still denying. This whole crisis was started by the Housing mess created by the ARM loans. Whoever introduced the ARM concept, needs to be shot. Brought back to life and shot again. And then, the people who got them.
Once in a while, the market pushes the reset button. So that the drunk CEO's can be brought back to their senses again. It is good overall, since all the companies will restructure itself and become efficient again. Priorities are changed. Then after a year they forget about everything and repeat the same mistakes.
This time though, its a little different. Because of the housing mess, many Banks and Financial firms failed. And on the side, Oil kept rising exponentially as Dubai needed the money to make the Worlds best of everything in their City. Well Dubai, no matter how hard you try, mother nature can't be altered. Which means, the skin roasting weather will be part of the combo deal. I think the major cause of the dry and hot weather is because of all the air-conditioners running there.
Coming back. Oil raised all the commodity prices. Which meant milk had cost more than wine. Thanks to Banks, the stock market crashed. Job losses started piling. And now, the next big thing was hit too. The Auto Industry. It was a ripple effect. I sincerely hope during this recession, they re-structure and phase out the Toyota Corolla.
Though, the above the facts are undeniable. There is one more reason why we are at this state. Just an hour back I read that, this recession was going to be longer than the recession in 1947. If there's a dis advantage about technology, this would be it.
There is just too much negativity everywhere, thanks to all the blogs, Internet news, 2000+ news channels and the Russians. Everyday I open up Google News to see snippets about how bad the Housing Market is, the next company which is going to lay off another 10000 people and my neighbour requesting a bail out to the Fed.
There are always comparisons. Job loss is at 5 year high, housing sales are worse than in the 1920's, etc. Everybody wants people to read their websites, so they have to make it more attractive. Which means, more bad news. I feel the Government should ban all the news channels to talk anything bad about the economy from this point on.
During the recession in 1947, information travel was slow. By the time most people would know that they were in a recession, the country would actually be out of it. But in today's age, every person in every country knows everything at the same time. So today, most of the countries are in Recession, but are not saying it.
I sincerely believe, after Obama takes over in January we can expect a turn around. Not because he is going to do something. But the hope he will and the positive aura around him. Everybody will be more confident and start spending. Right now, no one is spending. That is the DNA of US. The country will go for the pits if people started saving.
Being optimistic about everything is the only way out of this mess. And yes, George W Bush stepping down too.
