How about accepting an invitation?

Almost at least once a month I get a party invitation. I am not bragging here, but when you have more than ten friends then you are going to have more than 10 birthdays in a year. Throw in the New Years, Diwali, Eid, Thanksgiving, Christmas etc. Hence proving my point. The problem is not about getting invites but in accepting.

I do this too. Look at the invitation and think about getting back to it later. A good number of people send Evite's. So all the folks take a look at it and the people being invited for the party. And no one wants to be the first one to accept. So when the party actually starts, the person who is in the 'Yes' list is only the host.

The host's situation is pretty messed up in this case. They won't know whether to cook for 2 or order out for 2 million. They also don't know if they should assume that all are coming or if they are too boring, so people are not up for it.

The 'Yes' and the 'No' options in the Evite are pretty straight forward. But the 'May be' is as confusing as hell. What it actually means is you don't want to say no, hence being a little nicer. What it also means is you have a life and only if you are bored out of your mind, you will show up. It is as good as not responding at all.

And another fact which some people do not know is the host will know, if a person views the invite. Some smart people keep checking the Evite everyday to see who all are coming and then decide to accept it or not. Think again, smart people. Some even smarter people lie saying that they never got any Evite.

Then comes the warning reminders saying we have to say a yes or a no. But still people do not respond. At this point the host just decides to call off the party. Since no one else knows that, all of them will show up and it ends up in a bigger mess. Email invites are even worse. There are no responses at all.

And if you do decide to attend a party please respond in the same way as the invite so that others will know and can car pool or plan accordingly. Invitation: Evite and your response: Phone call, does not work.
